About the organization

This temple was founded by the monk Cheolgam during the reign of King Gyeongmun of Silla after he returned from China and saw the beauty of the landscape.
The terrain has two mountain peaks in front of and behind the temple, which is why it is called Ssangbongsa.
Inside the temple, there are various cultural heritage sites like the Daeungjeon Hall, the Geungnakjeon Hall, and the Cheolgam Tower, which were designated as a cultural property of Jeollanam-do in 2014.
Words from a local institution representative.
Temple stay is a traditional cultural experience program where you can experience daily life as a practitioner in a mountain temple alive with the history and culture of Korean Buddhism.
We strive to bring a special touch to those who come to find true happiness away from their busy lives.
We hope you can stay at the temple for as long as you wish and find comfort for your tired body and mind.
We encourage you to recharge your life's energy through meditation and prayer while breathing in nature.

■ Recommended travel destinations by the planner

1. Seryangje
Seryangje is a small reservoir located in Hwasun that has become famous as amateur photographers take pictures of the mist rising from the reservoir and the mountain cherry blossoms. In spring, the sight of mountain cherry blossoms, cedar trees, and willows reflecting on the misty reservoir is said to be fantastic. Thanks to this wonderful scenery, it has been listed as one of the '50 places you must visit in Korea' by CNN. If you visit Hwasun, take your camera and tripod and head to Seryangje!

2. Mudeungsan Sheep Ranch
Mudeungsan Sheep Ranch has been in operation for about 40 years and is a specialized sheep ranch. It started with raising Korean cattle and black goats, based on open grasslands, wide pastures, and pine forests, but now focuses on raising sheep.
It is the first eco-friendly tourist ranch in Honam where you can run around, see, touch, and feed the countless sheep on green pastures, just after Daegwallyeong in Gangwon-do. This happy tourist spot allows you to return to your pure childhood, take pictures, and play freely while interacting with nature.

3. Hwasun Dolmen Site
The Hwasun Dolmen Site is an outstanding site that vividly shows the tombs of prehistoric leaders and the burial and ritual artifacts from 2000 to 3000 years ago. The preservation condition is very good, and there is a quarry that demonstrates the construction process of the dolmens, providing important information about stone handling, construction, and transportation methods at that time. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000, recognizing its value.
