Project introduction

Project activities

This project is about spending a month in Mokpo and using the abandoned fishing nets in the sea in front of Mokpo. We make lifestyle items. It is a project where we work together with a social enterprise that creates these items. If you are usually interested in eco-friendliness, you will have a great experience by getting to do everything from planning to production and marketing.

Main Activities

  • Project Planning and Operation: You can plan and execute various projects related to the environment, such as plogging volunteer activities, eco-soap making classes, and environmental photo exhibitions to get more people interested and involved. Feel free to share the ideas that have been in your mind!

  • Product Planning and Creation: You can think about what products to make using marine waste that we need in our daily lives. You can research trending items or steady-selling products, and after checking if it's possible to make them with the resources you have, you might end up creating something that can be sold!

  • Marketing: You can take photos and write about various projects or products sold by the organization and promote them through social media. If you're used to or spend a lot of time on social media, this challenge will be easy and fun!

* After a preliminary interview, you will be placed in a field that suits you, and the activities can change depending on the organization's situation. You can also work in multiple areas, not just one.

About the organization

The organization that participants will be involved with makes everyday items from old fishing nets thrown into the sea in Mokpo.

Seeing the many pieces of trash in the sea and the birds that died after eating the trash inspired the slogan, 'Small actions to save the sea, big changes.'

They started their first project by collecting the nets near the coast to make simple bags and pouches, and now they are not just upcycling nets, but

also producing products from a variety of recycled fabrics.

Part of the profits from selling these products is used to clean the sea and streets of Mokpo.

They plan to keep developing new and popular products and services, so if you're interested, you should definitely apply for this program!

City travel information

Location : Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do

Let's introduce the top three attractions in Mokpo, which is known for its beautiful sights like Yudalsan, the sunset at Mokpo Bridge, Gatbawi, the dancing sea fountain, Nojeokbong, Mokpojin, and Samhakdo Inanyeong Park,

the scenic view of Dadohae, and the slow city island of Oedaldo.

1. Yudalsan

Yudalsan is a place where even the soul can rest. It’s not very tall, but it has great views, many pavilions like Daehangru, Dalsunggak, and Yuseonggak,

and many attractions such as the 'Tears of Goals' monument and the first outdoor sculpture park in Korea.

The 2.7 km road around Yudalsan lets you enjoy the sights of Mokpo city and the scenic Dadohae.

2. Sunset at Mokpo Bridge

Mokpo Bridge creates a beautiful scene with the sunset and is like the wings of a soaring crane. If you visit during sunset,

you can see a stunning sunset over the sea from Goha-do's Yongmeori Road.

In 2018, a cable car started operating over the sea between Yudalsan and Goha-do,

allowing even better enjoyment of Mokpo's beautiful ocean scenery.

3. Slow City Island Oedaldo

Oedaldo means 'island of lonely houses' as it is remote, and it boasts clean beaches and beautiful nature.

It was chosen as one of the 'Top 30 Islands for Vacation' by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The beach has fine sandy spots that are great for playing in the water, and you can enjoy the forest while admiring the beautiful views,

and experience charming traditional Hanok guesthouses.
