Living in Mokpo for a month

Mokpo is known as one of the three major ports in the past.

Particularly, places like Manho-dong developed quickly during the Japanese occupation.

However, over time, many people from the countryside started to move to Seoul, leading to a decline in population and a stop in development.

Since starting the Mokwon-dong urban regeneration project in 2014, areas like Seosan-dong, Barimadang, Manho-dong's 1897 Opening Cultural Street, Yongdang-dong, and Samhak-dong have began to revive.

These areas actively carried out urban regeneration projects based on local resources and started to bring life back to the city.

Now, even regions starting their own urban regeneration are becoming lively enough to attract visitors.

Staying here for a month is a great chance to work as a local creator with young people who have similar dreams.

So if you're hesitating, try to take the plunge!

Local creator activities

I will use my ideas and Mokpo's resources.I will also tackle social issues Mokpo faces.I will work on projects that help both me and the local area thrive.

For example, planning a village festival, teaching classes using my talents or skills, managing shared facilities in vacant houses,

running educational programs for youth in remote areas, making sculptures for Mokpo tourist spots, and village tour guiding.

You can bring out the ideas you've only had in your head and make them real.

This organization is a cooperative located in Manho-dong, established in 2019 with the first Beer and Dried Fish Festival.

Given the local characteristics of Mokpo, known for its dried seafood, we thought it would be great to create an opportunity to enjoy beer that goes well with dried fish around the streets.

We created the first 'village pub' in the country where people can enjoy the Beer and Dried Fish Festival every day, lighting up the once dark Manho-dong area so that both tourists and residents would keep coming back.

Based on this success, we can create content as local creators by collaborating with staff, residents, and young people who work together.

Accommodation Introduction (Optional)

The accommodation is a local-based place run by an organization, and it has rooms optimized for 1 or 2-3 people.

Breakfast is available in the common area on the 2nd floor, and there is a rooftop with a view of Yudal Mountain and Mokpo Port.

In the evening, there is also a bar where you can enjoy dried seafood snacks and cold draft beer.

Region : Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do

Mokpo's famous tourist spots include Yudalsan, the sunset at Mokpo Bridge, Gabawi, the Dancing Sea Fountain, Nojeokbong, Mokpojin, Samhakdo Inan-Young Park,

the view of Dadohae, and the top 3 of Slow City Island Oido.

1. Yudalsan

Yudalsan is a place where even spirits rest. It’s not very tall, but there are many beautiful pavilions like Daehangru, Dalseonggak, and Yusesanggak.

There are many attractions like the 'Tears of the Target' monument and Korea's first outdoor sculpture park.

The 2.7 km Yudalsan circular road lets you enjoy views of the Mokpo city and Dadohae.

2. Sunset at Mokpo Bridge

The Mokpo Bridge, which looks beautiful like the wings of a soaring crane, creates a stunning scene when you visit at sunset.

From the Yongmeori Road on Kohado, you can witness the amazing sunset as it paints the sea.

In 2018, a cable car started operating over Mokpo's waters, crossing Yudalsan and Kohado,

allowing you to enjoy the beautiful sea views even more.

3, Slow City Island Oido

Oido, which means lonely moon village, is isolated and boasts clean beaches and beautiful natural surroundings.

It was selected as one of the 'Top 30 islands for a relaxing vacation' by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The beach has fine sand for playing in the water, with lovely views for forest bathing,

and you can also experience charming traditional Hanok accommodations.
