Create Your Own Classes and Inspire Children's Dreams in Wonsan Island, Korea

This is a village teacher project where you teach, learn, and grow together with children at a small elementary school on Wonsando Island, Boryeong City. Participants use their own talents and experience to plan and run classes for children, making use of the school library. Come experience a special time that broadens the children's dreams and possibilities while you, too, discover the joy and reward of teaching.

1. Create education that makes children want to learn on their own
This school has a special culture where students earn points for reading books or using the library. The points they collect can be used to buy snacks at the school's own snack shop. As a village teacher, you'll work in this school's library, using the point system to make reading activities and various mission-based education programs even more fun. As children read, complete missions, and take on new activities, they naturally learn in a way that draws out their curiosity and engagement. Beyond simply delivering knowledge, you'll get to watch up close as children learn and grow on their own, and experience firsthand how education can change a person — a deeply rewarding process.

 

2. Build special bond at a warm, welcoming school
This is a small island elementary school with around 10 students in total. That means you can connect more closely with each and every child and build deep relationships. As you take classes together, talk, and run around the playground, you'll find that the line between teacher and student fades — you'll become trusted friends and mentors, cheering each other on. Create memories you'll cherish for a long time, in a warm, family-like community that's hard to find in city schools.

 

3. Give island children a window into a wider world
Children growing up in a small island village don’t have many chances to meet different people or try new experiences. There are few peers their age, and since most of the adults around them work in fishing or farming, the range of jobs and lifestyles they see and learn from can feel relatively limited. In this project, you'll use your own experience and talents to introduce children to new learning, careers, cultures, and the wider world. Whatever your field — art, music, sports, video content creation, debate, design, and more — it can be a precious experience that opens up a new world for these children. Experience a special time where even one small talent of yours becomes a gift that broadens a child's dreams and future path.

 

4. Plan and run your very own class
This project has no fixed textbook or set method. Participants use their own interests and strengths to plan and run an education program that meets the children's needs. You'll experience the entire process yourself — from planning how to structure a day's lesson and what activities will spark the children's curiosity, to running the class and gathering feedback. This experience builds not only teaching skills but also planning, presentation, and communication abilities. It will be a meaningful career experience for anyone interested in fields that involve teaching and helping people grow, such as teaching, education planning, content planning, or instructing.

■ Main Activities
1. Planning and Running Educational Programs:
Participants will use their majors, skills, and interests to plan and run educational programs for children. They can freely create lessons in various fields such as art, music, physical education, IT, video production, and writing, helping to spark kids' curiosity and creativity.

2. Career and Dream Education:
Participants will introduce various professions and cultures, sharing their experiences to help children explore new dreams and career paths. They will provide kids with new opportunities to view the world widely based on their own real-life experiences and stories.

3. Community Teacher Activities:
Participants will take on the role of a community teacher at school, living and communicating with the kids. During breaks or after school, they will chat and play with the children, being friendly mentors and teachers who share in the kids' school life.

4. Supporting School Events and Educational Activities:
Participants will join various educational activities and events at school, supporting teachers and students. They will engage in seasonal events and hands-on activities, experiencing a wide range of educational settings.

• Participants can plan and run educational programs tailored to their majors or specialties.
• In consultation with school teachers, they will prepare educational content suited to the students' ages and levels.
• They can also join regular classes as assistant teachers, supporting the school teachers.
• Using the school library for materials, they will teach kids during time before morning classes or after school.
• They can plan various educational programs that encourage participation linked to the students' point system.
• Anyone can participate even if they are not education majors, as long as they want to share their talents and experiences with children.
• Educational activities should be conducted with easy explanations matched to children's understanding, along with positive feedback, respect, and consideration.
• Instead of conveying a lot of information at once, activities should be short and simple, repeated so that kids can participate naturally.
• Please show attention and care to ensure all children participate and none are left out.
• Create an atmosphere where children's opinions are heard, with plenty of questions and dialogue, allowing free expression.

We provide a place that was used as a guesthouse in the village so you can spend time with the villagers.

This is a public elementary school located in Wonsando, Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. It has a long history since it opened in 1937. The school doesn't have many students, but it provides careful attention to each child. They have various educational programs that take advantage of the island's features, such as a reading point system, mudflat experiences, and marine education. The local community and alumni work together to keep the school thriving. The school has a warm community culture and family-like atmosphere where children can grow up healthy.

Boryeong, located in Chungcheongnam-do, is a representative coastal city of our country with beautiful West Sea waters, large and small islands, wide mudflats, and green mountains all harmoniously combined. It is an attractive travel destination that many people visit throughout the year, as they can enjoy various marine leisure activities and fishing village culture, including the world-famous Boryeong Mud Festival. Recently, with the opening of the Boryeong Undersea Tunnel and the Wonsan-Anmyeon Bridge, access to the islands has significantly improved, allowing for a more convenient experience of the beautiful nature and village life of the West Sea. In Boryeong, where the convenience of the city coexists with the leisure of the countryside, the open sea views, warm people, and the life of fishing villages living in tune with nature create a special time that is hard to find elsewhere.

Wonsan Island, with its beautiful beaches, vast mudflats, and charming fishing village, is a representative island of the West Sea.Since the Boryeong Undersea Tunnel opened, its accessibility has improved, making it a new travel destination. Here, you can experience the leisurely life of the island village amid a small port, sea path, and beautiful sunset views.Experience various charms of the West Sea fishing village, from fishing and mudflat activities to fresh seafood, all in one place.

2. Daecheon Beach
Daecheon Beach is famous for its wide, soft white sand and beautiful sunsets, making it a representative beach of South Korea.Every summer, the world-famous Boryeong Mud Festival is held, attracting many visitors who can enjoy swimming and various marine leisure activities.The beach has well-maintained walkways, cafes, and restaurants, allowing you to enjoy the relaxed scenery of the West Sea and the charm of the sea at any time of the year.

02Fill out the participation application.	- Please express yourself comfortably and honestly without any pressure.
03Pay the project fee.	- After confirming the project registration fee or full payment, your application will be sent to the local organization. - If needed, a Skype interview will be arranged for confirmation after the project fee is paid. - If the local organization does not approve, 100% of the registration and participation fees will be refunded.
04Get the payment confirmation text.	- The day after the participant pays the project fee, we check and send a confirmation text. - If you do not receive a text the day after the payment, please contact us! (For payments on the weekend, we check it on Monday morning.)
05Confirmation of project participation.	- It takes about 1 to 7 days for the local organization to review the application and finalize the decision. - If you are finally accepted into the project, the person in charge will contact you separately.
06Arrival and project start.	- Participants will meet the person in charge after arriving at the location and undergo a local orientation. - After the local orientation, participants should understand the information provided by the local organization, and during the project period, , they should always be aware of safety as they start the project. (* Note that local orientation may not take place depending on the local organization, and it can change or be reduced based on the situation.)
07 Submit feedback after the project is over.	- After the project ends, participants should submit a project review, and after reviewing it, a certificate will be issued.

3. This project has a strict refund policy. If you cancel before the project is confirmed, you will receive a 100% refund of the project cost.

4. The project schedule and content may change due to local conditions such as traffic or weather, and may be reduced or altered if necessary.

5. This project is operated by a partnering organization. Therefore, the local organization is responsible for the actual operation.
