Find Your Own Pace of Life by the Sea, Wonsando Island Stay

This is a one-month living project where you experience daily life in an island village by the beautiful sea of Wonsando Island, Chungnam-do. Rather than rushing between tourist spots like a typical trip, you'll walk slowly, gaze at the sea, greet the villagers, and spend your days fully immersed in nature. Rediscover the ease of life and the warmth of people that you may have forgotten living in the city. Your time on Wonsando Island won't be a simple trip — it will be a special time to rediscover your own pace of life.

 

1. Live a day where it’s ok to do nothing
We tend to live each day feeling we must always be doing something — even on days off, wondering where to go or what to do to make the day meaningful. But on Wonsando Island, it's okay to set that mindset aside for a while. Time spent gazing blankly at the sea, walking slowly along the beach, or passing the day with no plans at all becomes a cherished memory here. In the morning, have a cup of coffee while looking out at the sea; in the afternoon, stroll the beach or read a book; and in the evening, wrap up the day watching a beautiful sunset. Time spent slowly emptying out, rather than busily filling up your day, will restore your tired body and mind and help you reconsider what you truly need.

 

2. Become a village neighbour, not a tourist
Here, even strangers are welcomed with the warmth of old neighbors. By talking with villagers, sharing meals, or lending a small hand, you'll naturally become part of daily island life. People greet you first when you cross paths on the street, and share vegetables they've grown or seafood they've caught, always wanting to give you one more thing. Your time on Wonsando Island won't be a fleeting trip, but a time to feel warmth between people and build another hometown for yourself.

3. Start a new hobby alongside a digital detox 
Step away for a while from a life surrounded by smartphones and computers. On Wonsando Island, you may find yourself spending more time gazing at the sea than checking your phone. It's also a great environment to start hobbies you've long wanted to try — reading, drawing, photography, or writing. The quiet sea and the relaxed rhythm of island life will naturally spark new inspiration and creativity. As you spend your days this way, you'll gradually rediscover your own rhythm of life and start listening to yourself about what you truly enjoy and what kind of life you want to live. 4. Live and enjoy the island scenery that changes a little every day
The sea at Wonsando Island greets you with a new view several times a day. Depending on the tide, wide mudflats are sometimes revealed, and at other times the seawater fills the shore completely, showing an entirely different look. In the morning, sunlight sparkles over a calm sea; in the evening, a crimson sunset paints the island and sea like a single painting. Wildflowers blooming with the seasons, the cool sea breeze, the sound of waves, and the cry of seagulls — the scenery nature creates here grows deeper the longer you stay. Come experience, up close, the slow passage of seasons and time that's hard to feel in the city.

This is a project where you can stay on Wonsando Island and live out the daily life of a small village. You can find your own pace in beautiful nature, take walks by the sea, read books, and start new hobbies while enjoying your time.

1) Enjoy walks in the island village and the beautiful nature:
You will encounter Wonsando's beautiful nature along the seaside paths and beaches you can walk to. You can enjoy the changing coastal views, sunsets, and the vast tidal flats up close while spending a relaxed time that's hard to experience in the city.

2) Interacting with the island village people:
Take some time to share stories with locals and live like a neighbor, not just a visitor. You can sometimes enjoy meals together, help out a little, and join seasonal activities like mudflat fishing or village events, allowing you to experience the warm community culture of Wonsando.

3) Digital detox and start new hobbies:
Take a break from smartphones and computers, and try hobbies like reading, writing, drawing, photography, or exercising that you've always wanted to do. The quiet daily life of the island village will inspire new ideas and creativity, helping you regain your own rhythm and balance in life.

4) Free travel in Boryeong and Wonsando:
While staying on Wonsando, you can enjoy the relaxed daily life of the island and quickly travel to Daecheon Beach and downtown Boryeong by land. Experience a rich month by enjoying various attractions, cafes, and restaurants in Boryeong along with your peaceful stay on the island.

We offer a pension space near the sea in the village so you can spend time close to the villagers.

The accommodation has amenities like a TV, refrigerator, and kitchen tools. If you want a different place, please ask separately.

Boryeong, located in South Chungcheong Province, is a marine city that represents our country with its beautiful West Sea beaches, large and small islands, wide tidal flats, and green mountains. It is a charming travel destination that attracts many visitors throughout the year, thanks to the famous Boryeong Mud Festival and various marine leisure activities along with fishing village culture. Recently, with the opening of the Boryeong Undersea Tunnel and the Wonsan-Anmyeon Bridge, access to the islands has improved, making it easier to experience the beautiful nature of the West Sea and the daily life of fishing villages. In Boryeong, where the convenience of a city meets the relaxation of the countryside, you can enjoy the open sea landscape, warm people, and the life of fishing villages in harmony with nature, offering a special experience that is hard to find elsewhere.

Wonsando, with its beautiful beaches, vast tidal flats, and charming fishing village, is an island that represents the West Sea.Since the opening of the Boryeong Undersea Tunnel, it has gained attention as a new travel spot. You can experience the everyday life of a relaxed island village amidst the beautiful scenery of small harbors, sea paths, and stunning sunsets.Experience the various charms of the West Sea fishing villages all in one place, including fishing, tidal flat experiences, and fresh seafood.

2. Daecheon Beach
Daecheon Beach is famous for its wide, soft sandy beach and beautiful sunsets, making it one of South Korea's top beaches.Every summer, the world-famous Boryeong Mud Festival is held here, attracting many visitors who can enjoy both swimming and various marine leisure activities.The beach has well-developed walking paths, cafes, and restaurants, allowing visitors to savor the peaceful landscapes of the West Sea and the charm of the ocean throughout the year.

3. Seongjusun Natural Recreation Forest
Seongjusun Natural Recreation Forest is a healing spot in Boryeong, where dense forests meet clear valleys.Walking along the cypress forest paths and well-maintained trails, you can enjoy the fresh scent of the woods and the leisurely nature, making it a favorite spot for families and trekking enthusiasts.Feel the beautiful nature of Boryeong fully in this place, which has a different charm from the sea.

02Fill out the application form to participate.	- Please express yourself comfortably and honestly without feeling overwhelmed.
03Deposit the project fee.	- After the project registration fee or full payment is confirmed, your application will be sent to the local agency. - (If needed) After the payment, there will be a Skype interview with the local agency to confirm your participation. - If the local agency does not approve after review, 100% of the registration fee and participation fee will be refunded.
04Receive confirmation text for the deposit.	- The day after the participant deposits the project fee, we will confirm it and send a text to notify you. - If you don’t receive a text the day after the deposit, please contact us! (For weekend deposits, we check on Monday morning.)
05Project Participation Confirmation.	- It takes about 1 to 7 days for the local agency to review your application and finalize your participation. - If you are finally accepted into the project, the person in charge will contact you separately.
06Arrival and Project Start.	- Participants will meet the person in charge upon arrival and undergo a local orientation. - After the orientation, participants will learn the information provided by the local agency and during the project, they will always prioritize safety as they begin the project. (* The local orientation might not take place with some local agencies, and it may change or be shortened based on the situation.)
07 Submit a review after project completion.	- After the project ends, participants will submit their project reviews, and after review, a certificate will be issued.

1. After the project is confirmed, refunds for personal reasons of participants are not possible.

2. Participants are considered to have agreed to the refund policy upon applying for the project.

3. This project has a strict refund policy. If you cancel before the project is confirmed, you will receive a 100% refund of the project fee.

4. The project schedule and details may change based on local conditions like transportation or weather, and they may be reduced or altered if necessary.

5. This project is run by a partnering organization that operates the project on the ground. Therefore, the local organization is responsible for the actual operations.

6. Please make your travel arrangements after you receive the final confirmation for your participation in the project. We will provide individual updates about the schedule after confirmation.
